Sacramental Preparation & Celebration

Anointing of the Sick

To arrange for the celebration of this spiritually healing sacrament, call the parish office (816-436-0880). Individuals experiencing serious illness, or anticipating surgery should request celebrating this sacrament of healing. It is preferable to request this sacrament BEFORE going to the hospital (outside of an emergency situation). Communal celebrations are also held annually.

Baptism

Infant to 6 Baptism ~ Parent preparation for the celebration of the sacrament of Baptism for infants to children of age seven is held every month. Please call Debbie Rose at the parish office (816-436-0880) to register. Baptisms are celebrated during Sunday Masses or with a deacon at 12:00pm on the first and third Sundays.

Older children (7-17) ~ Children seven years of age and younger than 17 participate in a special process, the Rite of Christian Initiation Adapted for Children. This is a one to two year process.

Adults ~ Adults who seek baptism or profession of faith with the Catholic Church, participate in the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). The RCIA is a faith journey that includes the teachings of the Catholic Church while focusing on each individual's formation in a life of discipleship and commitment to Jesus Christ.

Confirmation

Youth ~ Young people in the 9th through 12th grades of high school participate in a process of faith formation in preparation for the celebration of the sacrament of Confirmation. Preparation is multi-faceted and includes the study of Church teachings, service, retreats and involvement in the life of the parish.

Adults ~ The sacrament of Confirmation is celebrated yearly at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception for practicing, adult Catholics over the age of 21.

Eucharist

Children in Second Grade ~ All parish second-graders are invited to prepare for their First Eucharist. Recognizing that parents are the primary sharers of faith with their children, this program is home based. To compliment the parent-child experience, parent meetings & retreat experiences are offered. Participation at Sunday Eucharist is expected.

Older Children ~ Baptized children older than second grade who have not yet celebrated First Eucharist will also participate in a home based program.

Holy Orders

Holy Orders is the sacrament of apostolic ministry. Any individual considering entry into the formation program for the diaconate or priesthood is encouraged to contact Rev. Ken Riley

Matrimony

Per diocesan guidelines, couples planning to marry need to contact the parish office nine months prior to their intended wedding. The marriage preparation process at St. Charles involves meeting with Fr. Ken Riley, a session with a counselor, and a series of meetings with marriage preparation couples.

Reconciliation

Children in Second Grade ~ All bapitzed parish second-graders are invited to prepare for their First Reconciliation. This preparation program is home-based, and includes parent sessions, retreat experiences, and a communal celebration of the sacrament.

Older Children ~ Older children will participate in a home based program.

Celebrating the Sacrament ~ Reconciliation is offered every Saturday from 3:30 to 4:30 pm in the Church, and by appointment. Communal Reconciliation services are celebrated seasonally.
